 Timeline 

 1903 George Orwell born in India

1911  went to St Cyprian's school in Eastbourne

1917  won a scholarship

1921  joined the British police in Burma

1927 grew dissatisfied and resigned

1928 journeyed to Paris

1932-1933 worked as a teacher

1933 first book was published Down and Out in Paris and London

1934 got a part time job in a second hand bookshop, first novel Burmese Days published

1935 another novel published

1936 followed by keep the Aspidistra Flying, married Eileen, commissioned to write book about poverty in northern England, left Spain to Spanish civil war

1937 Road to Wigan published

1938 A Homage to Catalonia published, suffering from tuberculosis, 

1938-1939 spent winter in Morocco

1939 Coming Up For Air published

1941-1943 worked for the BBC

1943 became literary editor for Tribune a left wing magazine

1945 Animal Farm published, wife died

1949 masterpiece 1984  published, married second wife

1950 George Orwell died
